Son charged with shooting, killing Goldsboro woman

A 31-year-old Goldsboro man has been charged in the shooting death of his mother in their home early Friday, police said.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A 31-year-old Goldsboro man has been charged in the shooting death of his mother in their home early Friday, police said.

Goldsboro police responded to 306 Wilmington Ave. at about 3:20 a.m. for a report of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Sonya Yvonne Darden, 49, suffering from a gunshot wound, and paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Shontionne Domian Darden told investigators that he thought he heard an intruder coming in the house and fired a shot into the hallway, killing his mother. He was charged with second-degree murder and felony possession of a firearm by a felon and was being held in the Wayne County jail under a $200,000 bond.
