HICKORY, N.C. — A 4-month-old was killed and a toddler was critically injured in a Wednesday afternoon crash in Burke County.

Highway Patrol troopers said a Buick Century driven by Cody Austin Myers, 21, was traveling south on Henry River Road at about 1:40 p.m. when it crossed the double yellow line and collided with a Ford F250 pick-up truck driven by Robert Abernathy, 65.

Authorities said a 4-month-old and 17-month-old were ejected from the Buick while still in their car seats.

The 4-month-old was pronounced dead at the scene and Myers died at an area hospital several hours after the crash.

The 17-month-old was taken to an area hospital, where the child was listed in critical condition.

Authorities said Abernathy and a teenage passenger in the Ford were treated for minor injuries.
