4 bridges over I-95 to be raised in Johnston County

The Department of Transportation has approved plans to raise the height of four bridges in Johnston County.

Tractor-trailers are about to get a little more space along parts of Interstate 95.

The Department of Transportation has approved plans to raise the height of four bridges in Johnston County.

Tractor-trailers hit at least three of the bridges this year.

The I-95 bridges are on Hockaday Road (S.R. 1162) south of Exit 87, U.S. 701 at Exit 90, Pittman Road (S.R. 2137) at Exit 101 and Bagley Road (S.R. 2339) at Exit 105.

The $2.8 million contract was awarded to United Contractors Inc. of Great Falls, S.C.

Work is scheduled to begin as early as Oct. 27, with completion set for Nov. 1, 2009.
