ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Thirty-eight fugitives were arrested and nearly 100 warrants were served Friday in Rocky Mount as a result of Operation Justitia.

The operation began Wednesday morning and included officers from numerous agencies who spread out across the city and the nearby areas of Nash and Edgecombe counties with the goal of apprehending people wanted on a variety of charges.

“This round-up is just another indication of how different departments working together can be successful,” said Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight. “These operations benefit our citizens as far as hopefully helping them sleep a little better at night knowing some of these offenders are actually off the streets.”

Significant arrests included:

Matthew Lewis Simms, 23, wanted in Halifax County on a murder charge.

Corleon Andra Augustine, 18, wanted on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, injury to personal property and felony conspiracy.

Hector Xavier Rivera-Torres, 28, wanted in Puerto Rico on a parole violation for a homicide conviction.
