37-year-old charged with murder in death of Lumberton man

A Lumberton man has been charged with murder in connection with the Wednesday death of a 48-year-old man.

LUMBERTON, N.C. β€” A Lumberton man has been charged with murder in connection with the Wednesday death of a 48-year-old man.

Authorities said James Bethea was found dead in the front yard of a home at 1106 Peachtree Street on Wednesday. Authorities are waiting on an autopsy to determine Bethea’s cause of death.

Matthew McDougald, 37, of Kennedy Circle, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana.

McDougald was being held without bond at the Robeson County Detention Center.
