31-year-old man dies after being shot in jaw in Raleigh

A man was shot in the jaw early Wednesday morning at an apartment complex in Raleigh, police said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A man died early Wednesday morning after being shot in the jaw near a Raleigh apartment complex, police said.

Officers responded around 3:30 a.m. to the 2200 block of Raven Road to the report of a shooting. When they arrived, police found 31-year-old Jose Juan Melendez Jr. with a gunshot wound to his jaw.

Melendez died at a local hospital.

A woman who called 911 reported seeing a man running into some nearby woods after the shooting.
