30 Cited For Alcohol Violations in Chapel Hill

Local and state law-enforcement agents cited 30 people in a sweep to check compliance with alcohol laws in Chapel Hill on Thursday.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Local and state law-enforcement agents cited 30 people in a sweep to check compliance with alcohol laws in Chapel Hill on Thursday.

Chapel Hill police officers and state Alcohol Law Enforcement agents visited bars and retail stores throughout the town. They issued citations to 30 people for 47 violations.

"This compliance check is part of the Chapel Hill Police Department's ongoing efforts to address underage drinking and other alcohol-related violations in our community," Lt. Kevin Gunter, of the Chapel Hill Police Department, said.

Agents handed out 22 citations for underage possession of alcohol and 13 citations for possession of fictitious identification. Four people were charged with aiding and abetting underage possession of alcohol.

Two businesses were cited for serving alcohol without an operators' license.

Three charges were also filed separately against people for underage purchase and consumption of alcohol.
