PITTSBORO, N.C. — Three teenagers were killed in a car crash in Pittsboro.

Around 11a.m. Sunday, the teens were traveling in a car southbound on Fire Tower Road. According to Highway Patrol Trooper J. Maynor, the driver lost control of a 1991 Lexus, ran off the road and hit a tree. The car overturned and hit another tree before landing on the side of the road, Maynor said.

The victims were identified as Jeffery Alston, 16, Brandon Womble, 15, and Demetrius Alston, 13.

It appears the teens were killed on impact and speed appeared to be a factor, Maynor said.

Jeffery Alston and Womble attended Northwood High School. Demetrius Alston attended Horton Middle School

Dr. Ann Hart, Superintendent of the Chatham County Board of Education, said letters will go out to parents explaining the tragic accident and that counselors will be available at the schools.
