FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 3-story apartment building in Fayetteville caught on fire Saturday morning at around 5 a.m., officials said.

Firefighters worked in the early morning hours Saturday to put out the flames at the Kings Cross apartment building on Ivanhoe Court.

Twenty-four units were affected by the fire.

Chanell Underwood was in the apartment underneath one that caught on fire. She said she woke up and heard a noise, then looked out her window and saw orange flames.

"I didn't know what to do, I just ran out," she said. She didn't have time to grab any of her things, Underwood said.

"I saw that I lost everything," she said. "I just started crying."

Underwood is a retired military service member, and she said she lost everything from her military service.
