RALEIGH, N.C. — Three members of the staff of Central Prison in Raleigh were taken to an outside medical facility Thursday afternoon after an attack by some prisoners.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. According to a prison spokesman, a prisoner refused an order and others joined in to jump the staffers as they approached him.

None of the staffers' injuries were believed to be life-threatening, the spokesman said. They were each taken to an area hospital.

He did not identify the staffers or their roles at the prison. He was unable to say how many total employees and prisoners were involved in the incident. Investigators were working to figure out how many inmates were involved and why this happened.

This is the second time in a month that someone was injured at the prison.

On Aug. 11, two corrections officers were stabbed while trying to remove an inmate from his cell.
