— Authorities have identified three people who were shot early Thursday during an overnight fight in the parking lot of Fayetteville's Cross Creek Mall.

Police said Jamil R. McMillian, 24, was in serious condition while Rachelle N. Jones, 33, has been released. Both were treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. No information was immediately available for the third victim, identified as Trenton T. Powell, police said.

Police said two "persons of interest" were in custody in connection to the shooting.

Authorities did not immediately provide any additional information about suspects or a motive for the fight. Fayetteville police said Thursday they were reviewing the footage as part of their investigation.

Fayetteville police responded around midnight Thursday to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after three people arrived there with gunshot wounds. The three were shot during an earlier fight in the mall's parking lot.

Investigators said a group of people arranged to meet in the parking lot after business hours, where the fight started. During the fight, someone pulled out a handgun and numerous shots were fired, police said.

Police and deputies surrounded the mall's parking lot and stores Thursday night, but mall officials the security increase was planned before the shooting, to prepare for the holiday shopping rush.

Shopper Fannie McWilliams said she feels as safe at the mall as she does anywhere else.

"I have never had any problems," she said. "No matter where you go today, you just take precautions."

Police asked anyone with information to call Detective J. Bisner with the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-676-2597.

Police said two "persons of interest" were in custody in connection to the shooting.
