3 people, 120 animals rescued from Carteret County Humane Society

Three people and about 120 animals were trapped at the Carteret County Humane Society before they were rescued by emergency crews Friday night.

NEWPORT, N.C. — Three people and about 120 animals were trapped at the Carteret County Humane Society before they were rescued by emergency crews Friday night.

Cassandra Tupaj, the manager of the shelter, said that the shelter was flooded and that a roof had caved in.

The three people at the shelter were rescued by Carteret County Emergency Services and the Cajun Navy was able to rescue all of the animals by 9 p.m.

Animals rescued

Even though the animals are safe, about 50 to 60 cat crates and 20 dog crates are still needed. Anyone who is willing to foster an animals should call 603-662-8544, or visit 100 McQueen Ave. in Newport, according to a tweet.
