BENSON, N.C. — Three people suffered minor injuries when a car collided with a school bus in Benson on Friday morning, authorities said.

A Johnston County Public Schools bus was stopped with flashers activated as a child was walking to the bus when a car slammed into the bus’s rear at full speed, the State Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened at the intersection of Sanders Road and Ben Circle around 8:10 a.m., Johnston Public Schools officials said.

There were 21 students on the bus at the time.

Two students and the car's driver were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

The bus was headed for McGee's Crossroads Elementary School. The uninjured students were taken to the school or were picked up by parents, the school district said.

Charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the car, the SHP said.
