Posted — UpdatedAccording to the Nashville Metro Police Department, police were called around 6 a.m.
According to an official speaking at a press conference, officers discovered one employee was shot in the chest, one in the abdomen and one in the leg. The latest report is that one of the three employees is in critical condition.
Officials said the suspect had been working for the company only a short time. He arrived at work as the overnight shift was leaving – carrying a weapon.
"He seemingly was reporting for work, but with him as he reported for work was a glock semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine – and for some reason he opened fire," said an official during a press conference.
The suspect then left the building and began crossing the street. He was at the intersection of Antioch and Franklin Limestone, when the officers saw him and tried to bring him into custody. According to the official, officers tried to de-escalate, demanding he drop his weapon, but he refused – instead, directing his gun towards the officers.
The man was shot by officers, who then rendered aid to him, according to officials. He was then transported to a medical facility, where he died.
"At this point we know a name. We need to flesh out where he lived, were there any issues with him here at the business, and why would he do something like this?" he said.
Antioch is around 12 miles southeast of downtown Nashville.
According to police, the suspected gunman was shot by police on Antioch Pike and remains in the hospital.
