RALEIGH, N.C. — Six adults and children were rushed to a local hospital after a serious crash on South New Hope Road in Raleigh on Monday evening.

Raleigh police confirmed that three children and two adults from one vehicle were hurt in the crash, which happened around 5:30 p.m. on a bridge that goes over Crabtree Creek.

Jaqueline Simon, a family member, told WRAL News that two dogs, named Lola and Peque, both Chihuahuas, were riding inside the vehicle and died in the crash. A third dog the family had recently adopted, a pit bull, ran away from the crash and is still missing, she said.

A family member told WRAL News that two dogs, both Chihuahuas, riding inside the vehicle died in the crash. Another dog is missing.

Simon said her father had to be pulled from the vehicle and her uncle, who was also trapped in the car, had both of his legs broken. Simon said her youngest cousin, who is 9 or 10, is in the ICU "and the rest of the family just had a lot of open cuts."

An adult in a second vehicle was injured as well. The wreck appeared to involve a pickup truck and an SUV.

The circumstances around what caused the crash are not known.
