Durham man arrested in fatal shooting of 25-year-old woman

Durham police on Monday night arrested a 24-year-old man who is charged with murder in the death of a woman who died early Monday in a shooting at an apartment complex on Wadesboro Street.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police on Monday night arrested a 24-year-old man who is charged with murder in the death of a woman who died early Monday in a shooting at an apartment complex on Wadesboro Street.

Larico Fonyte Dunn, of Durham, was arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 in Granville County. He is charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

According to investigators, Dunn shot 25-year-old Eirka Desiree Downey at about 2 a.m. at the Lynnhaven apartment complex in the 900 block of Wadesboro Street.

According to police, another woman, 24, was grazed by a bullet in the shooting and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident does not appear to be random, investigators say.

Dunn is also wanted on charges from an Aug. 11 domestic incident involving Downey. Those charges include assault on a female, assault by strangulation, misdemeanor larceny and injury to personal property. In addition, he is wanted on a probation violation.
