SALISBURY, N.C. — A 23-year-old Livingstone College student has died due to coronavirus complications, according to a message from the school's president.

Jamesha Waddell, a senior, died Thursday morning, wrote Jimmy R. Jenkins Sr., the school's president.

According to the post, Waddell left Livingstone College on Sept. 19 to self-isolate at home. Her condition worsened and she had to be hospitalized in an intensive care unit.

"Our prayers and heartfelt condolences are extended to the Waddell family and her loved ones during this very difficult time," Jenkins wrote. "However, we should be reminded that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. As our student body prepares to depart from campus next week for winter break, we strongly urge everyone to remain vigilant in mitigating the spread of this virus by wearing a mask, social distancing and washing your hands frequently."

Livingstone is a private, historically Black college in Salisbury affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
