In Morganton, National Guard gears up, rolls out on rescue and relief mission

Hey there

It's Wrls Heidi Kirk

I'm bringing you an update from Morganton where I am

about to load up with the North Carolina National Guard

We are headed out on a mission to Asheville amid

the recovery in that area

Um We're about to head out probably in the next

20 minutes or so

I just loaded up my camera gear into one of

these cars and we're going to be able to bring

you some updates shortly

Um Now some interesting facts that I've learned today the

National Guard here in North Carolina has sent over 500

soldiers and airmen out to Western North Carolina amid this

recovery process

I'm going to continue bringing you updates throughout the day

I want to give you a look inside of one

of the North Carolina National Guard vehicles

So this is what it's going to look like as

we ride over to Asheville to assist in that recovery

process in Western North Carolina

Now as far as we know we're not exactly sure

what we're going to be doing but from what I've

heard the National Guard is just there to step in

in whatever way that they can So they're going to

be coordinating with emergency management down in these communities that

have been affected

We're going to be tagging along and bringing you continued

updates throughout the days to come of what's going on

in Western North Carolina
