Avoid the area: Shooter on the loose after driver shot near Mudcats stadium, causing crash

ZEBULON, N.C. — Police said a driver was shot Sunday night while driving past Five County Stadium in Zebulon.

According to the Zebulon Police Department, the driver then crashed around U.S. Highway 264 Alternate just west of the stadium after the shooting. Police believe the shooting happened around 7 p.m.

First responders are at the scene. It is unclear how close the driver was to the stadium when they were shot. The victim is being treated at a local hospital and remains in stable condition.

Authorities said the victim's car, a black Ford Fusion, left a nearby Walmart when they were followed by a white car. The Wake County Sheriff's Office had the road blocked off while they investigated.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect is still on the run.

Zebulon police are asking anyone in the area around 7 p.m., who might have information, to call the police department at 919-823-1818.
