Tropical Storm Idalia impacted eastern North Carolina on Aug. 30-31, 2023, including coastal communities.
Fewer than 11,000 customers in the state lost power, most at the coast, but multiple schools in the WRAL viewing area closed, including Wake, Durham, Chatham, Moore, Nash and Wilson districts.
The greatest threat was flooding, especially southern and eastern portions of the state.
Tropical storm warnings were in effect for our coastline and multiple non-coastal counties. A tornado watch was issued for Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender and Columbus counties. Some schools, colleges and businesses were issuing closings or delays.
