GARNER, N.C. — The Garner Police Department has released the name of the pedestrian killed in a crash on U.S. Highway 401 .

The crash occurred on Tuesday around 7 p.m. on Fayetteville Road near Kitchen Drive.

Police said a 2012 Nissan van was traveling in the southbound lanes when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

The pedestrian, Micah Tashawn Williams, 21, of Raleigh, was taken to WakeMed, where he died as a result of his injuries.

The driver, a 48-year-old man, stayed at the scene, and police said he cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors, and charges had not been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Police believe Williams did not use a crosswalk when crossing the street.

Once a full investigation is concluded, investigators will consult with the district attorney’s office on whether criminal charges will be filed, police said.
