Charged by Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz and spearheaded by the ncIMPACT Initiative at the University of North Carolina School of Government, Carolina Across 100 is leveraging research-based insights to fuel community recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.

Carolina Across 100 is meant to embody UNC Chapel Hill's commitment to the people of its state. Learn how students and faculty are surveying and interviewing people from North Carolina's 100 counties and using that data to address some of the biggest challenges each community is facing. 

covid 19 really created challenges for many citizens across North Carolina, Carolina across 100 is an incredible opportunity to showcase the impact of our research across the state. Uh, we hope to touch down in all 100 counties, uh, learning about and where there can be additional work conducted in collaboration with our world class researchers to help citizens in North Carolina. Carolina across 100 is meant to embody this university's commitment to the people of its state. We've surveyed thousands of people were interviewing 100 people. These are folks who represent the business for profit sector government at all levels and not for profit organizations. And we've asked them to tell us, what can we do to partner with you that you will find to be helpful? Students were interviewing people from the East Coast and the western part of North Carolina. They would ask some questions about issues their community was facing and where those issues exacerbated by covid or created by covid hearing from those stakeholders was really gratifying and made me all the more excited about the initiative because I know we can really help. These are not challenges that any one institution or even one sector is able to resolve. We bring the humanists in with our social scientists with our biomedical and natural science researchers to solve big problems. We do this in what we call a a convergent science approach. It takes all people coming together across perspectives, across sectors, across ideologies in order to roll up their sleeves and collaborate in ways that make a real difference. We recently had a really successful outreach event in October where students came to the quad, we handed out candy and talk to them about the initiative. Students were so excited about the event, and we're just coming up to us with a lot of questions about the initiative itself and want to know how they could get involved. Our student research assistant, Charlie Chapman, made a wooden map in the maker space where students could put stickers on the part of the state that they felt most connected with um, and then they could also write about why they felt connected to that part of the state. I know Andy Griffith was born. There will do you both filmed and based. It was really awesome to see all parts of the state had stickers on them. The Carolina crossed 100 initiative is all about connecting the U. N C. Community with the greater North Carolina community, So it was really great to see students represented from all parts of the state. The student responds to Carolina across 100 has been nothing short of magical. It's one thing to have students who are from North Carolina say I want to give back to my community that warms your heart. But to have students who are not from North Carolina say we understand that we're at a public university and the public of the state support us and make this possible, and we owe it to the state to contribute back. That's just on another level. I'm just so happy to be a part of the team, and I've been so grateful to see it take off and can't wait to see what happens in the next five years and all the different projects. Yeah,

Carolina Across 100 - our work is underway

The five-year initiative has surveyed and interviewed residents in every county in North Carolina to identify some of the biggest issues for the state’s recovery.

Carolina Across 100 will provide high-impact support to communities as they build a foundation for a brighter future. In partnership with communities, UNC-led teams will offer data, policy and evidence-based program options, facilitation, coaching, and collaborative support to help local teams work together to further their recovery in ways they decide.
