2 tornadoes leave trail of damage along North Carolina coast
Some residents of coastal North Carolina are cleaning up Sunday after two tornadoes were reported the day before during a storm system that brought rough weather to the area.
Posted — UpdatedAccording to the National Weather Service, an EF-2 tornado touched down in Emerald Isle near Eighth Street and Ocean Drive around 2 p.m. with winds of up to 120 miles per hour. No injuries or deaths have been reported so far from the storm.
The weather service said several houses in the area were damaged, including some structures that suffered damage to their roof.
Another twister was reported along Bogue Sound around the same time, which the weather service says was an EF-0 tornado.
WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said the twisters resulted from a front that moved through the area Saturday afternoon.
He said that system, which brought a chilly rain to central North Carolina and the Triangle yesterday, has exited the region.
"Around here, things will be pretty quiet," Moss said. "You don't have to worry about rain today."
Sunday's low clouds and fogs are expected to move out during the late morning and residents could see sunshine during the latter part of the day.
The high temperature on Sunday is expected to top out in the upper 50s.
