2 suspects arrested in Tarboro after woman was pistol whipped, officials say

Two men were arrested in Edgecombe County on Wednesday with one of them facing kidnapping charges.

TARBORO, N.C. — Two men are facing charges after they were arrested Wednesday in Edgecombe County in connection with charges that include pistol whipping a woman and kidnapping, authorities said.

Deputies from the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office was called to Vidant Edgecombe Hospital about a woman who had been badly beaten with a gun. They were told that the suspect was still on the scene and had a weapon.

Deputies spoke with the victim, Ashley Webb, who said how she had been in a relationship with LiMichael Pittman and how he had held her and two children in a vehicle at gunpoint. She said he also assaulted her about the head and face with a pistol.

Deputies located Pittman and Sakwon Hyman near the hospital.

When approached, Hyman dropped a handgun and fled. The gun was recently reported stolen to the Tarboro Police Department as stolen. Witness interviews confirmed that this handgun had been used to assault Webb.

Pittman was charged with three counts of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault in the presence of minors, possession of firearm by felon and possession of a stolen firearm.

He was held under no bond.

Hyman has been charged with possession of a stolen firearm but was released under a written promise to appear in court.
