2 Rocky Mount middle school students charged after bringing gun to school

Rocky Mount police said they found a gun on a middle school student that was purchased from another student.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police said on Wednesday they found a middle school student with a gun that was purchased from another student at the school. 

The school resource officer at J.W. Parker Middle School took the firearm, officials said.

Both of the students were charged by the Rocky Mount Police Department with possessing a firearm by a minor and possessing a firearm. Police said that additional charges were possible.

WRAL News reached out to the police department to find out how old the students are.

On Saturday, two teens in Rocky Mount were injured after an accidental shooting. Police said the gun used in that shooting was not properly stored inside the home where the teenagers lived.
