ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Police were investigating after a man and a woman were shot Friday afternoon in Rocky Mount, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. at a house located in the 400 block of North Harris Street, Rocky Mount police Sgt. Brad Summerlin said.

Both victims were rushed for treatment to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, but the extent of their injuries and their condition was pending.

Police did not immediately say if a suspect was being sought or what may have prompted the gunfire.

Several law enforcement officers were at the scene while they investigated the shooting.

Yellow crime scene tape was erected around a house and a parked car that had an open door.

Neighbor Roland Edsel said he has lived in the area for about a year and a half, and Friday was not the first shooting he has seen on the street.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Rocky Mount police.
