Man arrested in double murder at Wayne County home

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said a man has been arrested in connection with a double slaying of a man and a woman who were fatally shot inside a Wayne home Friday morning, authorities said.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said a man has been arrested in connection with the double slaying of a man and a woman who were fatally shot inside a Wayne home Friday morning, authorities said.

Steven Mark Mackie, 49, of Goldsboro, has been charged with two counts of murder at the home at 107 Elm Avenue, which is about four miles outside Goldsboro city limits, the sheriff's office said in a written statement. Mackie was being held at the Wayne County Jail on a no-bond order.

Rescue workers were called to the home shortly before 6 a.m.

When they arrived, they found the bodies of Kathryn Brooke McCloud, 25, who lived at the Elm Avenue home, and Keith Evan Presnell, 27, of Summerfield, Ohio, the sheriff's office said.;

Sheriff's Capt. Shawn Harris said McCloud and Presnell were romantically involved and had been dating. Harris said Mackie is related to McCloud.

Authorities have not yet said publicly what may have led to the killings.

Investigators said Mackie and an unidentified woman who called 911 were at the house when deputies arrived.

Both were taken to the sheriff's office for interviews, and Mackie was charged with murder after the interview.
