RALEIGH, N.C. — Two people died and two others were injured late Thursday night in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 40 in Raleigh.

Police said a Honda Civic with four people inside was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway at Wade Avenue. The car crashed head-on into a pickup truck, killing one person in the Civic. A second person died later, police said.

Two other people in the Civic were injured, but both are in stable condition at WakeMed. The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously injured.

The crash was not weather related, police said.

Police did not immediately release the identities of the people involved in the crash.

All westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours overnight but reopened around 5:30 a.m.
