2 children killed, 1 suffering from life-threatening injuries after Goldsboro crash
Two children were killed in a crash in Goldsboro early Thursday around 2:30 a.m., according to the Goldsboro Police Department.
Posted — UpdatedThree children ages 12, 13 and 14, were riding in a car traveling at a high rate of speed, a release from the police department said. It's unclear who was driving the vehicle.
Goldsboro police officers patrolling downtown spotted the vehicle speeding near Center Street, but quickly lost sight of it and did not chase after it, according to authorities.
Soon after, police said they found the car had crashed on the railroad tracks behind the Holly Street Warehouse at East Holly Street and North Center Street.
First responders helped rescue one child who was trapped in the vehicle. That child was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two of the other children were declared dead at the scene.
It's unclear what ages the children were who died. Their identities have not yet been released to the public.
The Goldsboro Police Department is still investigating the crash.
