2 children, driver with minor injuries from school bus crash along US 1 in Wake Forest

A crash involving a school bus and another vehicle has closed all lanes of northbound Capital Boulevard-US 1 just south of Caveness Shoppes Drive on Thursday morning.

WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A crash involving a school bus and another vehicle has shut down part of a busy road in Wake Forest.

Northbound Capital Boulevard/US 1 was closed just south of Caveness Farm Boulevard on Thursday morning due to the crash. The wreck occurred when a driver of a Chevrolet Traverse ran a red light at the intersection and hit the side of the bus.

Twenty three Forest Pines Elementary School students and a driver were on board the bus at the time. The bus driver and two children were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Photos show numerous police and fire vehicles at the scene.

The road reopened just before 11 a.m. The scene was clear by then, but earlier, worried parents and first responders filled the intersection.

The students that weren't hurt were taken to school on another bus.
