GREENSBORO, N.C. — The 2022-2023 high school sports season will be extended by a day.

Just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, the N.C. High School Athletic Association announced the 1A girls soccer state championship game between Christ the King and Woods Charter would be suspended until Sunday at 1 p.m.

The game had been in a lightning delay for just over two hours when the decision was made to suspend it until Sunday.

A series of storms moved close to the UNC-Greensboro soccer stadium where the game was being played. Guilford County was also under a severe thunderstorm warning at one point.

When the game resumes, Christ the King will have a corner kick with 35:03 left in the first half. The game is scoreless between the two teams.

HighSchoolOT will have full coverage of the 1A girls soccer state championship game on Sunday.
