Want to stop annoying robocalls? These apps promise to help
Most people are familiar with spam calls from phone numbers and places that appear familiar. A few apps promise to help.Posted — Updated
Nomorobo offers real-time protection from more than 2.5 million annoying robocallers, telemarketers and phone scammers. The app says it can block or identify robocalls, block calls designed to look like they come from a local number, but are really unwanted calls, and even get protection from text spam and phishing attempts.
The app is available to try for free for 14 days. After the trial, it's $1.99 a month.
RoboKiller developers claim the app can reduce unwanted calls by up to 99%. Features include real-time caller id and a continually-updated list of spammers. The list already tops more than 1 million.
The app also has an interesting feature that allows users to automatically answer with silence, fake messages and more. The free trial period is 7 days. The subscription is $4.99 a month.
Mr. Number has a suite of features to help manage calls and contacts. One can easily block specific phone numbers, protect phone from 'spoofed' phone scams and benefit from spam detection technology that is always working in the background to help stop robocalls. The monthly fee is $2.99.
5 On Your Side stresses one caution: Once the trial periods end, you'll automatically be charged for the apps unless you cancel. And if you subscribe, the subscription automatically renews unless you turn off auto-renew.
