19-year-old killed in Rocky Mount shooting

Rocky Mount, N.C. — A 19-year-old was killed during a shooting in Rocky Mount on Monday.
Police were called to the 1900 block of Vernon Road around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a shooting with injury.
Life-saving measures were done on Jordan Clayton, but he died at the scene. A spokesperson for Edgecombe County Schools said Clayton graduated from Southwest Edgecombe High School in 2019 and played football for the high school.
Monday's shooting was the latest in a string of shootings in Rocky Mount over the past seven days. On Thursday, two men were killed in separate shootings that took place within four hours and 15 minutes of each other.
Markelius Chambers, 27, died from injuries received in a shooting in the 1000 block of Branch Street just before 2 p.m. Darryel Jerrod Hill, 30, is charged with Chambers' murder and is being held without bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
Then, Sherman Whitaker, 45, died from injuries received in a shooting in the 100 block of Challenge Court.
Three people are charged with his murder: Romell Dee’Ange Parker, 24, Ronnell Jaquan Battle, 25, and Dysheka Laquann Parker, 25. All three were being held at the Edgecombe County Detention Center without bond.
