19-year-old killed in 170 mph chase on US 264 in Nash County

Officials told WRAL News it was hard for squad cars to keep up with the driver, Andreas Darden, who was traveling as fast as 170 mph.

BAILEY, N.C. — A man was killed Thursday in a single car crash on U.S. Highway 264 in Nash County after a chase with speeds estimated at 170 mph.

The crash occurred after 1 a.m. near Exit 27 for N.C. Highway 231. Dozens of N.C. Highway Patrol troopers and the Nash County Sheriff's Office were at the scene as a severely damaged car was pulled out of the woods.

Officials told WRAL News it was hard for squad cars to keep up with the driver, Andreas Darden, who was traveling as fast as 170 mph.

They said Darden, 19, was ejected from his car. He was the only person in the car, and no other vehicles were involved.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
