19-year-old convicted in 2009 Rocky Mount slaying
A 19-year-old Rocky Mount man will spend his life in prison after being convicted Wednesday in a 2009 shooting death, police said Thursday.
Posted — UpdatedDewayne Avent was convicted of first-degree murder in the Dec. 27, 2009, shooting death of Tronyale Daniel, 27. Avent will not be eligible for parole.
Police said that Daniel got into a fight with two men and a woman near a vehicle at 1205 Parham St. Avent then ran around the vehicle and shot Daniel in the chest, police said.
Avent was named a suspect the day after the shooting and was found hiding in the attic of a home in early January 2010.
He has a single previous misdemeanor conviction for carrying a concealed weapon, according to state Department of Correction records.
