18-year-old charged with murder after shooting outside Raleigh McDonald's

The Raleigh Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened outside a McDonald's in Raleigh Sunday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — An 18-year-old has been charged with murder following a shooting that happened Sunday evening outside a McDonald's in Raleigh.

Officers with the Raleigh Police Department responded around 6:20 p.m. to reports of a shooting along Trawick Road.

Police said they found Demetrice Dorell Johnson with several gunshot wounds. Johnson, 32, died at the hospital.

Jesus Alegre-Ramirez, 18, of Raleigh, was charged with murder in connection with the case, police said. He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon.

Arrest records listed Alegre-Ramirez as a McDonald's employee.

William Holder, owner of the McDonald’s franchise, released a statement in response to the incident, saying, "We are saddened by this tragic circumstance. Our organization's top priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees and customers. We are fully cooperating with the Raleigh Police Department and their investigation."

Raleigh police are continuing their investigation.

Sunday's crime is about 1 mile away from the 3100 stretch of New Bern Avenue area, which WRAL News reported in January as the "most dangerous block in Raleigh."
