Vigil held for Rolesville High School student killed in hit-and-run

A large emergency response blocked Louisburg Road on Friday morning as a body was found between Raleigh and Rolesville.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A community came together Sunday to remember a 17-year-old teenager hit and killed by a car.

Rolesville High School student Ashlee Llagostera was hit by a pickup truck early Friday morning on Louisburg Road in Raleigh.

Louisburg Road, also known as U.S. Highway 401, was closed from just north of Forestville Road through Mitchell Mill Road for several hours as police investigated.

Friends, family and classmates of Llagostera gathered at Main Street Park in Rolesville to release balloons in her honor.

A memorial was also set up on U.S. 401 for Llagostera.

Wendel Romual Ramirez-Silva, 27, of Raleigh, was charged with aggravated felony death by vehicle and felony hit and run. He was also charged with driving without a license after his license was revoked after he drove while impaired.
