17-year-old charged with murder in death of Harnett County man

A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of a Harnett County man last month.

LILLINGTON, N.C. — A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of a Harnett County man last month.
Kyle Jarrett, 28, was shot twice in the upper body and pronounced dead inside his home at 565 Arlie Ln. in Lillington on June 21.
One day later, police offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday night said Alma Isabel Correa Portillo, of 93 Foxfield Court in Angier, was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Jarell Donte Ballentine, 18, of Angier, was also charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Kyle Jarrett, 28, was shot twice in the upper body and pronounced dead inside his home at 565 Arlie Ln. in Lillington on June 21.

Jarrett’s father, William, said his son was working in the construction business with him and had one semester to go to obtain a bachelor’s degree so he could become a history teacher.

Authorities said the investigation into Jarrett’s death is ongoing.
