RALEIGH, N.C. — A 20-year-old man is charged with murder in the death of a 16-year-old who was stabbed not long after the fireworks lit up Raleigh's downtown skyline Friday night.

The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. at the intersection of South Wilmington and East Cabarrus streets. Raleigh police responded to a 911 call and found the teen, identified as Tahje Alexander Mials.

Mials was taken to WakeMed, where he later died.

Raleigh police said Jerome Lee Gardner, 20, was arrested Saturday morning and taken to the Wake County Detention Center. Investigators did not say what led to Gardner's arrest, but they said the crime was not random.

Gardner's bond information was not immediately available.
