DURHAM, N.C. — Durham authorities investigated two separate shootings overnight that killed two men.

The first incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Liberty and Elizabeth streets, according to police. Durham police officers in the area heard the gunshots, and while they were investigating, the victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Police identified the victim as 16-year-old Torry Trueluck, of Durham. Durham Public Schools officials said he was enrolled at Northern High School.

A second shooting happened hours later at the intersection of Denver Avenue and Hoyle Street in Durham. Police said James Docher, 35, of Waring Street was found inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound at about 3:30 a.m. Docher was taken to an area hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

Another woman inside the car with Docher was not injured, authorities said. Deputies do not believe the shooting was a random incident.

The sheriff's office closed Old Oxford Road from Thompson Road to Dearborn Drive while they investigated the shooting.

There is no indication that the shootings are related.

[Correction: This story has been corrected to show that the second shooting and the Old Oxford Road closure were related to the same incident.]
