Raleigh

The Easter Bunny will take his seat for photos at both Triangle Town Center and Crabtree Valley Mall starting this weekend.

Theatre Raleigh’s latest family show "Where Words Once Were” continues this weekend at the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts. The 70-minute show is best for ages 9 and up and tells the story of a city where most words are illegal.

Admission is free for this fundraising event that supports Myra’s Angels, which provides care packs filled with basic essentials for kids who are homeless or in foster care.
The NC Museum of Natural Sciences will screen “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” at 7 p.m., Friday. The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. with movie-themed science stations. Plus, a special guest will help separate the facts from the fiction following the screening. The movie will begin around 7 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.
The NC Symphony’s youth series will present the Carnival of Animals at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., Saturday. Kid-friendly activities take place an hour before each performance, which run about an hour each. The performance will include music, along with the Paperhand Puppet Intervention. Tickets are $27 each.
Local author Gillian McDunn will celebrate the launch of her beautiful debut book, "Caterpillar Summer," at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Quail Ridge Books in North Hills. The book, for kids ages 8 to 12 or so, is mostly set in North Carolina. I highly recommend it. Read my Q&A with McDunn for more about the book and Saturday's event.

And Three Bears Acres, featuring a 50-acre outdoor play area, opens for the 2019 season on Thursday.

Durham

Check out the Museum of Life and Science’s Science on a Sphere, a new exhibit where you can explore the surface of Mars, look at weather patterns around the globe, watch a visualization of all the airplanes in the air at one moment worldwide and more. The exhibit comes to the museum thanks to a partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
