Also, July 20 is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo lunar landing. So check out our earlier roundup of eight events to mark the date. It includes a free festival at the NC Museum of History, a new IMAX movie at Marbles Kids Museum and a days-long celebration at the Museum of Life and Science.
Raleigh
Both the NC Museum of Art and Dix Park will host outdoor family-friendly movies this weekend. The NC Museum of Art will host a Movie Party with "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part," on Friday, July 19. A two-hour party begins when the gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8, but kids ages 6 and under are free. And Dix Park will host a screening of "Incredibles 2" on Saturday, July 20. It's free. Seating and vendors open at 7 p.m. A children's superhero parade and costume contest (for kids 12 and under) is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. The movie starts at 8 p.m.
The Kids Exchange, the massive consignment sale at the NC State Fairgrounds, is open to the public this Friday through Sunday.
Durham
Pork, Pickles and Peanuts is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 20, at Duke Homestead, a state historical site. The free event puts the spotlight on barbecue with costumed interpreters demonstrating historical cooking methods. There will be live music and local vendors too.
Durham's Rock the Park outdoor movie series will feature "Ferdinand," the PG-rated movie based on the popular picture book. It's 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20, at Durham Central Park.
Cary
Crossroads summer concert series will feature fireworks at its conclusion. It's 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, July 19, at the shopping plaza. Stone Age Romeos will perform. It's free. The concert will be held in the Dick's Sporting Goods parking lot.
Carpenter Park in Cary will host a Garden Open House from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 20. The monthly event includes hands-on activities for kids and the chance to get your hands dirty and learn about gardening.
Hillsborough
Maple View Ice Cream will celebrate National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 21. There will be live music, a chance to visit with a calf, lawn games, face painting and more ... including lots of yummy ice cream.
