GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A 15-year-old was killed in a Monday night chase and car crash, according to the Goldsboro Police Department.

Around 8 p.m., a deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office spotted a stolen car outside Deacon Jones, an automotive dealer on U.S. 70 in LaGrange. The car, which sped away, was stolen from the dealership, police said.

The driver led the deputy on a chase, lost control of the wheel and ran off the road, striking a culvert. The car went airborne and hit a light pole before landing upside down in a parking lot at 4209 U.S. 70 East, police said.

Two teenagers were ejected from the car.

A 15-year-old boy, who was not identified, died at the scene. Jakoree Harper, 18, was taken to UNC Health Wayne, where he was in stable condition Tuesday.

Harper, of Goldsboro, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a motor vehicle.

The sheriff's deputy and a trooper with the N.C. State Highway Patrol stopped at the scene. Goldsboro police, firefighters and Wayne County EMS also responded.
