14-year-old charged in Southern Pines stabbing

The juvenile was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in connection with an incident that occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a parking lot on the 500 block of Shaw Avenue, police said.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Police charged a 14-year-old in a weekend stabbing in Southern Pines.

The juvenile was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in connection with an incident that occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a parking lot on the 500 block of Shaw Avenue, police said.

Kanresha Jerre Purcell, 19, of Eagle Springs, was stabbed more than once in the incident and was taken to First Health Moore Regional Hospital for treatment, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
