Raleigh

Raleigh Little Theatre continues its run of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” Friday. The show, part of the theater’s youth series, was extended through Sunday because of popular demand. RLT also will continue its work to make the theater accessible to all with its second sensory-friendly performance at 1 p.m., Saturday. Sensory-friendly performances are designed for individuals with autism spectrum disorders, sensory sensitivities or other disabilities.
I’m excited to be attending a special family party and toy drive to celebrate the opening of “The Nutcracker and The Four Realms” at Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh on Saturday. Get there early, around 11:15 a.m., Saturday, for crafts and activities. The movie begins at 12:15 p.m. Your ticket includes the activities, as well as the film. Alamo Raleigh will also be launching the start of their toy drive. All toys collected will be donated to the Salvation Army’s Christmas toy shop.
Our Body: The Universe Within, dubbed an "eye-opening and educational exhibit" that features actual human bodies, continues this weekend. The exhibit, which stopped in Raleigh a decade ago, opened at Triangle Town Center in north Raleigh last weekend for an extended run. It's scheduled to remain here until at least Feb. 28. Tickets are between $15 and $17.

Poe Center for Health Education will host Drugs Uncovered, which has been called a must-see program for any adult that interacts with teens. The two-hour program is offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday. It explores the teenage alcohol, tobacco, and other drug culture with a simulated “Teenager of Today’s Bedroom,” which holds over 70 references to substances that include elements of pop culture and common and not-so-common hiding places for alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. RSVP for this free program by Friday. Space is limited.

Wilson

Wilson hosts its 14th annual North Carolina Whirligig Festival on Saturday and Sunday, in downtown Wilson. The popular community arts festival, which attracts more than 60,000 visitors, is a celebration of the arts, specifically the whimsical, wind-driven whirligigs (giant sculptures made from recycled industrial parts by local folk artist Vollis Simpson). This year’s festival footprint is expanding to include the new Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, which opened last November.
