RALEIGH, N.C. — More than 130 people, including some in Wake and Cumberland counties, were arrested as part of a North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement operation over the weekend.

According to ALE officials, 132 people are facing 209 charges involving illegal alcohol and drugs as a result of the statewide crackdown from May 4 through May 6.

Eleven firearms were also seized across the state, including the arrest of a man with a concealed handgun and rifle outside the Aqua Lounge Nightclub in Hope Mills.

Authorities said controlled substances, non-tax paid liquor and two vehicles were also seized as part of the operation.

“This operation is another example of ALE special agents partnering with other agencies to deter violence at nightclubs, bars and restaurants across the state,” said ALE branch head Terrance Merriweather. “ALE is committed to focusing efforts on addressing violence and other criminal activity to make communities safer.”

Authorities said ALE agents will submit violation reports to the North Carolina ABC Commission to document the regulatory and legal violations observed at 16 permitted businesses. The violations could result in fines, suspensions or revocations of permits.
