FOUR OAKS, N.C. — Thirteen people were injured in a pile-up crash Saturday morning on Interstate 95 in Johnston County, authorities said.

Five cars and a tractor-trailer were involved in the crash that took place in the southbound lanes near Exit 93, or Brogden Road.

Those involved in the crash told authorities that a reckless driver was swerving through heavy traffic on the interstate, which caused one driver to slam on their brakes. That initial crash caused a series of mostly rear-end collisions.

Authorities said most of the injuries related to the crash were minor.

Officials said that the driver who initially caused the crash drove away from the scene.

A secondary accident occurred in the northbound lanes a short time after the first crash, which caused traffic in both directions to be intermittently stopped, according to authorities.

There were traffic delays on I-95 near Smithfield in both directions for several hours after the crashes.
