Raleigh

SPARKcon, Raleigh's festival of all things creative, runs Friday through Sunday in downtown Raleigh. The free festival offers up a variety of performances, demonstration and more, including a special area for kids with make-and-take activities.

The North Carolina Symphony will host its first sensory-friendly concert at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14 Tickets are $5. The one-hour concert will feature classical music favorites and offer up some special accommodations for those with sensory issues, including a designated quiet space and low-level lighting.

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck stops at Triangle Town Center from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14. The truck serves up treats and merchandise.
Good 2 Grow Kids Consignment Sale is open to the public Friday through Sunday at 3062 Wake Forest Rd.
The City of Oaks Pirate Festival is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at Dix Park. It's followed by a free screening of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl." The free festival features the opportunity to engage in sword fights, explore a pirate ship, play "swashbuckling" games and more.

Durham

Peppa Pig Live! stops at the Durham Performing Arts Center for a 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, show. Tickets start at $29.50.
Duke Gardens and Durham's Partnership for Children is hosting the Blooming for Books Festival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14. There will be free children's books, activities for all ages, storytellers, local readings, a book swap and more.
Schoolhouse of Wonder is celebrating its 30th anniversary with S'more Stories: A Live Storytelling Event for Families. The free event will feature a community potluck, lots of outdoor activities and storytelling. It takes place at West Point on the Eno Park, 5101 N. Roxboro St. Donations to support Schoolhouse of Wonder, which offers outdoor camps and programs for kids, are welcome. Pre-registration is requested. It's starts at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14.

Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill Public Library hosts a giant book sale this weekend. Doors open at 3 p.m., Friday, for library members (but you can purchase a membership at the door). It's open to the general public on Saturday and Sunday. Prices start at 50 cents. On Sunday, bring your own bag, fill it up with books and pay just $7.

Cary

Designer Consignors, a consignment sale offering women's clothing and accessories, is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday. Some items are half off on Saturday. It takes place at Cary Towne Center, 1105 Walnut St., Cary.
The NC Courage professional women's soccer team will host the Orlando Pride (which includes soccer superstar Alex Morgan) at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Holly Springs

The town hosts Dog Day in the Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at Sugg Farm Park. The day includes agility course demos, games, crafts, pet costume contest and more.

Knightdale

Knightdale Arts and Education Festival is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at Knightdale Station Park. The free event includes food trucks, vendors, art displays, local performers and more. An outdoor concert runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Morrisville

The East Meets West Festival is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at Park West Village. The annual event features the community's many cultures with food, performances and other activities. Admission is free.
