Happy weekend! Here’s what’s happening on the family fun front. As always, check WRAL.com’s Out & About calendar for more ideas.

Raleigh

Check out the glorious display of daffodils at Dix Park near downtown Raleigh. The city planted 50,000 bulbs back in November and thousands are now popping up.
Raleigh Little Theatre closes its run of “Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds." Sunday. A bit about the show: “Meet Ziggy, a shy boy who would rather stay at home and watch television than explore the island of Jamaica. His adventures are enlivened by the fantastic songs of Bob Marley.” Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for kids.
Theatre Raleigh will open "Where Words Once Were," the latest show in its family series this week. The 70-minute show is best for ages 9 and up. It opens Friday and runs on select days through April 7. The award-winning play is set in a dystopian time where language is rationed. Go Ask Mom will be at the 2 p.m., Saturday, show with some show-themed crafts. Get there early—around 1:15 or so—to take part! Shows take place at the Kennedy Theatre inside the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts.
NC State LIVE brings Lightwire Theatre’s Ugly Duckling to Stewart Theatre at 3 p.m., Sunday. Tickets are $12 and free for kids 3 and under. The show uses cutting edge lighting technology to bring the story to life on stage.
Art in Bloom at the N.C. Museum of Art features the work of more than 50 floral designers from around the country who put their creativity to the test to design floral installations based on works in the museum's collection. It runs Thursday through Sunday. During the four days of Art in Bloom, tickets are required for admission to the permanent collection in the Museum’s West Building. Tickets are $18 and free for kids 6 and under.

Durham

Duke University hosts a free, family-friendly event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, at the Duke Institute for Brain Science Cube. The afternoon will include exhibits, games and the opportunity to touch a real brain. There also will be a sensory-friendly visiting time from noon to 1 p.m.

Bubble Wonders, a popular show at the NC State Fair each year, will stop at Durham County Library locations Saturday and Sunday to offer free hour-long shows. These are a lot of fun!

Carolina Theatre’s Family Saturday Series will feature the 2006 movie “Akeelah and the Bee” at 11 a.m., Saturday. Tickets are $5. The movie is about an 11-year-old girl who participates in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Duke baseball plays Wake Forest on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are $9.

Chapel Hill

Ackland Art Museum’s Family and Friends Sunday is 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the museum. The free program includes dance performances that are inspired by the museum’s latest exhibit - The Beautiful Brain.

Cary

The town’s Marvelous Music Family Series will present the Philharmonic Association Chamber Ensembles’ “The Triumph of Rapunzel” and the “Nanny Goat,” at 3 p.m., Sunday. Two Grimm’s fairytales will be told by young musicians, actors and visual artists. Tickets are $8. It takes place at the Cary Arts Center.
At WakeMed Soccer Park, both NC Courage and North Carolina FC have games in a doubleheader. NC Courage will play the Orlando Pride at 1 p.m., Saturday, and NCFC will face Mexican powerhouse Necaxa at 3:30 p.m., Saturday. Tickets start at $30 for both games.

Wake Forest

The Wake Forest Human Relations Council will host the inaugural Multicultural Day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St. This free event will feature a variety of multicultural foods and performances.
