Marbles Kids Museum's IMAX theater opens "Out of Bounds 3D" on Friday. The 45-minute movie is intended for all audiences and features an Olympic snowboarder as she travels across a chain of mountain ranges from Antarctica to Alaska. Showtimes are 10 a.m. and noon, Friday through Sunday.
CAM Raleigh will host a Sensory Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 11. The free event is for all ages and offers a sensory-friendly museum experience in a quiet and structured setting before the museum opens, according to the museum's website.
The Carolina Hurricanes have home games at the PNC Arena at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 10, against the Arizona Coyotes and 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, against the Los Angeles Kings. Tickets start at $25.
WAKE Up and Read, which is getting ready to launch its 8th annual children's book drive, will host a kick-off event from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1820 Capital Blvd. Learn more about the project, bring books to donate and find out how you can help out. It's free.
Read With Me will host musical storytimes at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11. Tickets are $10 per family. The program is intended for kids ages 18 months to six years and their adults. Pre-registration is required.
Durham parks will host a Martin Luther King event from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, at W.D. Hill Recreation Center, 1308 Fayetteville St. The free event includes art displays, poetry open mic, arts and crafts and more. It's a free family program.
Duke women's basketball team will host Virginia Tech at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tickets start at $5 to $10 for general admission.
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will host a Star Families program with a focus on winter skies. It's 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11. It's designed for kids ages 7 to 12 with their families. Tickets are $9.25 for adults and $8.25 for kids.
Transactors Improv will host a family-friendly show from 6 pm. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, at The ArtsCenter. The short-form improv scenes are intended for all ages. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for kids.
And it's the final weekend for the Chinese Lantern Festival at Booth Amphitheatre. It closes Jan. 12.
